It seems that the days of summer have arrived in full force and, with them, also come the days of greater sun exposure, whether at the beach, pool or simple walks outside.
So that the whole family can make the most of this season, it is essential to protect everyone's skin from the sun's rays and take good care of it, avoiding immediate or later damage and complications.
Without anything new, at My Skin Concept we are your allies in protecting the whole family and, therefore, we have put together seven simple but essential tips to keep your skin protected, healthy and radiant during the summer months.
1. Use adequate protection
Choosing a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30, and that offers protection against UVA and UVB rays, is the first step. Apply a generous amount all over the body and reapplication every two hours, especially after getting wet or sweating a lot.
2. Attention to all areas
We've all heard the story of the friend who got scalded on the ears, the back of the head or the feet, right? Areas such as the ears, the back of the neck, feet or hands are often forgotten but also need protection. Do not leave any part of your body exposed without due care.
3. Use protective accessories
Wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses with UV protection and light clothing (but with long sleeves) are excellent allies for protecting yourself from the sun, in addition to applying sunscreen. Choose clothes with integrated UV protection to ensure maximum protection for your skin.
4. Avoid sun exposure in the hottest hours
We know this is nothing new, but it is also important to emphasize: the sun's rays are extremely strong between 10am and 4pm and, whenever possible, you should seek shade during these times and avoid sun exposure, especially with children. If something forces you to be outdoors, take extra protective care.
5. Stay hydrated
Staying hydrated is crucial. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help your skin stay healthy and avoid dehydration.
6. Food rich in antioxidants
Fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants can and should be part of your diet throughout the year, but especially in summer, due to their ability to protect the skin from sun damage from the inside out. Foods such as carrots, tomatoes, red fruits and green leaves should be a regular presence in your eating routine.
7. Care after sun exposure
Always, but especially after prolonged sun exposure, your skin deserves extra attention. After a refreshing shower, apply an after-sun moisturizer to soothe and hydrate your skin.
It cannot be stressed enough that sun protection is an act of love not only in relation to your body's largest organ - the skin, but in relation to your overall health and well-being.
